Warriors Win First CIF Game in School History 20-6

Woodbridge, playing on the road, jumped out to an 8-1 lead after one quarter.

The Warriors were led by Gabe Sandioval, who had five goals. Jess Cerami had three goals and Alex Chung, Matt Cowan, Nick Giberson and Travis Kissinger had two goals each.

Woodbridge loses tough game against Northwood, 15-7

The Timberwolves scored scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter and went on to defeat the Warriors, 15-7, at Northwood.

Woodbridge (14-8, 1-3) tried to get back into the match in the second quarter. Travis Kissinger converted two penalty kicks and Eric Marshall scored another goal with 1:47 left in the second quarter but Northwood maintained an 8-4 lead after two quarters and led, 12-6, after three periods.

"Northwood just came out sharp and looked great," Woodbridge Coach Matt Campbell said. "We made a run at them but you can't spot a good team five or six goals and expect to come back. They played a great game. They kept us out of sync the whole game."

Kissinger and Nick Giberson scored two goals each for the Warriors.

Woodbridge drops game to Uni

University's boys water polo team used a strong first quarter performance to defeat Woodbridge, 11-9, in a Pacific Coast League match at University Tuesday afternoon.

The Trojans (2-0 in league, 5-4 overall) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter before Woodbridge got back into the match by outscoring the Trojans, 4-1, in the second quarter.

The match was tied, 5-5, after a goal by Alex Chung. University regained the lead, 6-5, on a goal by Ryan Hudash with 1:09 left in the second quarter. Woodbridge kept it close through three quarters but University held on in the end.

Woodbridge (1-1, 14-6) was led by Travis Kissinger, who had three goals and Nick Giberson and Alex Chung, who had two goals each.

"I think we came out a little nervous and gave them some turnovers and they're a good team," Woodbridge Coach Matt Campbell said. "They're a good team and they went down and capitalized on those. After that, we settled down and I think we played with a lot of heart and came back and made it a very competitive game."

"Uni is a good team. They capitalize on your mistakes.

"Goalkeeper Zachary Tudhope had a solid game for the Warriors with 13 saves.

"We certainly rely a lot on him and I thought he had a good game," Campbell said.

Boys water polo athlete of the week: Zach Tudhope, Woodbridge

The senior goalie racked up 78 saves in seven matches to help the Warriors go 5-2, including a title at the Western tournament. Tudhope made 17 saves in the finals against San Joaquin Memorial and claimed MVP honors. He leads the county with 131 saves.

Goalie Zach Tudhope made 17 saves to lead Woodbridge’s boys water polo team past San Joaquin Memorial, 14-6, in the final of the Western tournament at Kennedy on Saturday.

Woodbridge opens new pool with a victory

Woodbridge’s boys water polo team christened its new on-campus pool Wednesday afternoon with a 14-8 nonleague victory over Marina in the season opener for both teams.
The Warriors seemed to feed off the energy of their home fans jumping to a 4-0 lead late in the first quarter and were in command the rest of the way. Woodbridge had played its matches at the Woollett Aquatics Center near Irvine High in the past.
“It was a great experience for our players to have a home crowd,” Woodbridge coach Matt Campbell said. “Part of the high school experience is being able to play in front of your home crowd and we had a great turnout and the stands were full.
"There was a lot of support for the home team and that’s something we haven’t had in the past and something that will be a real positive experience for our players and the school.”
Woodbridge senior Gabe Sandoval took a pass from goalkeeper Zach Tudhope and worked his way into position to score the first goal in the new pool with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter.
“It was very exciting,” Sandoval said. “A lot of emotions went through my head. The first one is that we were up by one and it was a good way to start out the new season.”
The couple hundred Woodbridge fans had plenty to cheer about after that.
“Home games are a lot more fun,” Sandoval said. “Having a student section rooting you on helps motivate you and push you through when you’re tired. We’ll take game by game but we’re looking forward to this season.”
Woodbridge led, 7-3, at halftime and broke the match open by outscoring Marina, 5-2, in the third quarter.
“We’re still working on things, but it was a good start for us,” Campbell said. “We have a long ways to go, but it’s good to be 1-0 and get a victory in your home pool.”
Junior Travis Kissinger led Woodbridge with four goals. Sandoval, Alex Chung and Eric Marshall had two goals each. Tudhope had nine saves for Woodbridge.
Marina was led by Dylan Cardona, who had three goals. Goalkeeper Michael Wolf recorded 10 saves for the Vikings.

Welcome to our 2010 Water Polo website.

The website is intended to provide our athletes and parents with the help, statistics, and other information needed throughout the year for our sport.  We think it is functional, easy to use, and contains practically everything anyone will need to enjoy and be informed about the program.

  

  

1)  The website includes News, Schedules, Rosters, Announcements, and Photos.

  

2)  In order to protect the privacy of our athletes, you will now need to Login to view the photos, videos, and athlete profiles of the website.  This will require you to register for a new login account, even if you previously registered on our first website because we are using a different technology than before.

  

It is easy to set up.  Simply go to the User Login section below the left-side menus to "Create new account" and follow the instructions.  Once we validate your identity, you will be notified that you are activated and you can Login.  Note that only students/athletes, parents, coaches, and school administrators are eligible for a login account.

  

3)  We plan to expand all features, especially photos, as we now have our own in-house Photos Gallery technology which allows us to maintain all digital images of our athletes in a secured environment.  All registered users that are logged in are allowed access to all photos, videos, and athlete profiles that we have stored on our website.
